Walk London’s rich history with Richard Cohen

Covent Garden Tour

Formerly an orchard and kitchen garden for the monks of Westminster Abbey 400 years ago Covent Garden became London’s first and most fashionable suburb. It was and remains a centre for artistic, musical and theatrical brilliance but also saw a decline into a time when sex workers – flash mollishers, spells and bawds ruled the roost alongside the booming fruit and vegetable market. After World War Two Covent Garden fought back against the planners and re-emerged in the 1970’s as a wonderful area for shops and people watching. We will end our walk at a community centre (with a flourishing bar) where you can see a fabulous display about the history of this vibrant neighbourhood.
